Fall Lawn Care Preps for Spring

Since Smith Mountain Lake is a prime destination for family and friend visits all summer long, your lake home may be in need of some TLC now that the heightened activity of summer has given way to school time and fall season. Lately, your house has seen more guests than it will until holidays or next summer. And your yard has no doubt endured quite a bit of traffic. The Home and Gardening Network encourages using fall as a season to invest in your landscaping, particularly the lawn.

Make sure your grass is green and healthy for next spring with a few outdoor tips. When the weather cools, it’s a perfect time to take a rake to moss and other unhealthy growth in your yard. If your lawn is hard and compacted, pull out some tools for aerating the soil. If you’re not sure how to do this properly, contact one of the landscaping experts at local greenhouses. See our helpful Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce’ business listings for direction.

Lastly, give your lawn important nutrients by applying a top dressing that can be found at local hardware stores. Places like Moneta Farm Supply, CAPPS Building Center or Smith Mountain Lake Building Centers will have what you need. Take some time to give your lawn some TLC this fall and be amazed at its beauty next spring.
