Cabin to Colonial to Cottage

One of the perks of property ownership at Smith Mountain Lake is the opportunity to personalize everything. From the type of lake view to the landscaping to the home style, most land at SML is left up to the owner’s creativity and desires. A recent article in local Laker Weekly newspaper highlights one couple’s choice to make their home log cabin style, with two stories, tall windows opening to vast lake views and a loft boasting a suspended 100-year-old canoe to accent the rustic mountain atmosphere. In the neighborhood are other cabin style homes, along with a variety of different looks. A few community neighborhoods hold to building and grounds restrictions, but most let the homeowners go all out in pursuit of their ideal property.

What’s more, the log cabin in the mountains look goes with Smith Mountain Lake’s Appalachia scene just as well as an historic colonial estate, a craftsman ranch or a sleek, modern spread. With the beautiful water views, Blue Ridge Mountain surroundings and spacious green acreage, any type of house will look like it was meant to be there.
