Smith Mountain Lake’s Most Scenic Highway

We are so excited that fall has come again to Smith Mountain Lake. Our skies are brilliantly blue, the water is gentle and the surrounding mountains are on the verge of gorgeous color. Lakers have a plethora of opportunities to enjoy this season, including several major annual events like the Antique & Classic Boat Show, Wine Festival and Home Tour. In between, we encourage visitors and would-be residents to go for a memorable drive along the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. It is one of SML’s main attractions.

Take your family for an unbeatable Appalachian mountain drive along the 469-mile Blue Ridge Parkway. Bring your best camera and a picnic lunch and stop at one of the frequent overlooks offer breathtaking views and photo opportunities. Picnic and camping grounds are complete with hiking trails, wildlife and historic structures. A multitude of points of interest including the Chateau Morrisette Winery, downtown Floyd, and Mabry Mill provide excitement along the way. See the Appalachian valley at its finest in blooming spring, bright summer and robust fall color. Choose the parkway for a day of leisure as maximum speed is 45 mph, no commercial vehicles allowed. See more information at the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce website or visit nps.gov/blri or blueridgeparkway.org
