Just as the Oakley Big Bass Tour came and went on a stop at Smith Mountain Lake and another championship competition sponsored by ESPN is set to have high school sportsman descend on the lake this weekend, SML is receiving recognition by yet another fishing icon, Bassmaster Magazine. Their recent article 100 Best Bass Lakes of 2013 features Smith Mountain Lake in a top 25 spot. These important nods toward Smith Mountain Lake’s standing as a bass fishery is encouraging in multiple ways.
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, VDIF, has worked hard to create a successful fishery here at SML and continued accolades from some of the sport’s top supporters is rewarding. In addition to exciting fisherman local and all along the east coast, the lake’s reputation as an outstanding bass fishery has the potential to boost tourism, economy and real estate.
